This is my version of Alton Brown's granola recipe.
Set the oven to 250F.
Crush or chop the nuts into whatever size pieces you think would be good.
Mix the oats, nuts, and brown sugar in a bowl.
Mix the maple syrup, vegetable oil, and salt in another bowl; making sure they're mixed well.
Add the liquid to the dry and stir well. Try to get the liquid all over all the dry stuff.
Spread the mixture on a baking pan.
Bake the mix for one hour and 15 minutes, stirring the mix every 15 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool.
Add in the dried fruit (I like craisins and dried cherries, but use whatever you like)
You need some sugar for carmelization, but this can be made lower sugar by modifying ingredients. Play around if you want, and post modifications in the comments if you find some change you like.
