Dumplings that should be like Ma used to make.
Cut shortening into flour, baking powder and salt with a fork (or your fingers) until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in milk. Drop by spoonfuls (any size spoon) onto boiling meats or vegies. Don't drop directly into liquids as dumplings will sink to bottom of pan and will not cook properly. Cook uncovered 10 mins. Cover and cook 10 more mins.
You can add 1/4 C grated cheese to flour mix before cooking, or 1/2 tsp dried sage, celery seed, parsleyor other seasonings for different flavors. I like to add 1-2 T lemon juice to mine. Just decrease amount of milk by 1-2 T.
